Importing Transactions Summary

Icarra can import transactions from OFX files, QIF files and from some CSV files. This will save time time creating and maintaining a portfolio. Follow these steps to import transactions:

  1. Download the QIF, OFX or CSV file your brokerage. See
    • How to download OFX files from Vanguard
    • How to download QIF files from Scottrade
    • How to download QIF files from Dodge And Cox
    • How to download CSV files from Ameritrade
  2. Verify that the files are in the proper format. Open the downloaded file in a text editor such as Notepad and make sure it looks something like the previously listed formats.
  3. Navigate to the Edit Transactions page of your portfolio.
  4. Click the Import Transactions link.
  5. Click the Choose... button next to CSV or QIF depending on what type of file you would like to import.
  6. Choose the file in the window your computer displays.
  7. Click the Import button.
  8. The QIF or CSV file will be processed and you will be brought to the Add Multiple transactions page.
  9. Make sure the transactions were imported correctly.
  10. If some transactions are incorrect modify them as needed
    • QIF ShrsIn and ShrsOut transactions often need to have the purchase price (or cost basis) entered.
    • Some QIF files use the company name instead of the ticker symbol. For now these names must be manually converted to tickers. In the future this process will be mostly automated.
  11. Click Save Transactions

The transactions are now imported. Allow a minute for your portfolio to be recalculated.

If you have difficulty importing transactions or Icarra does not understand your file send an email to Icarra Support.
